TO CELEBRATE the 25th anniversary of National Volunteers Week, the National Trust is looking for new recruits to join their volunteer workforce.

More than 4,000 people, aged from 14 to 84, currently volunteer as gardeners, guides and conservationists at the National Trust in Yorkshire.

During Volunteers Week, which this year runs from June 1-7, the Trust is looking for gardeners to help out at Middlethorpe Hall & Spa and at Goddards in York, working alongside professional gardeners to maintain the grounds and learn new skills.

In the North Yorkshire Moors, conservation volunteers take on a wide range of tasks, including drystone walling, moorland revegetation and footpath maintenance.

National Trust volunteering manager James Needham said: "Volunteering is simple. It's about giving your time and in return you get the satisfaction of time and effort well spent."
