HALF-CENTURIES by left-handers Phil Mustard and Ian Blackwell helped Durham to a four-wicket win in their final Friends Provident Trophy tie at home to group winners Gloucestershire.

After putting the visitors in they reduced them to 72 for five, only for New Zealander James Franklin and wicketkeeper Steve Adshead to put on 175.

They shattered the previous record sixth-wicket stand against Durham in the premier cup, which was 126 by Chris Taylor and Ant Botha at Derby in 2006.

Franklin made 85 and Adshead a one-day best of 87 before both holed out in the 49th over, during which Neil Killeen also has Jon Lewis caught.

In his first appearance of the season after a calf injury, Killeen also took two wickets in a tight opening spell and finished with five 48.

But in the last 11 overs of their innings Gloucestershire scored 100 runs to finish on 254 for eight. The first of those overs was the only one bowled by 17-year-old all-rounder Ben Stokes and it cost 14 runs, as did the next one by Gareth Breese.

When Franklin drove Breese for a huge straight six to complete his half-century off 74 balls it was his first boundary. But another six and half a dozen fours followed from the clean-striking left-hander.

Kyle Coetzer launched Durham's reply with 36 off 35 balls and with Blackwell also scoring at a run-a-ball in making 64 victory was never in doubt. Dale Benkenstein all but completed the task, falling for 44 when the scores were level. But Durham still got home with 11 balls to spare.
