Walkers have only a few days left to sign up to a charity walk to a County Durham beauty spot.

Walk the Extra Mile - a hike around the waterfalls in Teesdale - will raise money for Diabetes UK and celebrate the charity's 75th anniversary. The five-mile walk on Saturday, May 9 includes the spectacular High Force, the highest unbroken fall of water in the UK.

Only a few places remain on the walk and a similar event the day after has already sold out.

Entry is 6.50 and the money raised from the walk will be spent on medical research.

Ann Rowe, regional fundraising manager for Diabetes UK, said: "Recent statistics show that the number of people with diabetes in the region is increasing at a dramatic rate. One of the best ways to reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes is by taking regular exercise, such as walking."

To register to take part in the walk, which begins at 10am, contact Lisa Stafford on 01325-488606 or visit diabetes.org.uk to register online.
