ARMED officers swooped on a town centre library after a customer was seen with a firearm.
The man was seen in Darlington's Crown Street Library at 12.45pm today by another lender, who suspected he had a firearm.
Staff and police were alerted to the incident. Four patrol cars and an armed response unit were called to the library.
One man has been arrested and taken to Darlington police station for questioning.
The firearm will be taken away for investigation.
