HUNDREDS of thousands of pounds will be invested to reduce the risk of homes flooding in Hartlepool.

Northumbrian Water is spending 900,000 to upgrade 200 metres of sewer pipe and install a 220 cubic metre storage tank in the Glentower Grove and Stanmore Grove areas of the town.

The improvement work is to begin on Monday, February 16 and will take up to five months to complete.

Residents affected by the work are invited to drop in and find out more at a customer information session to be held on Wednesday, January 28 at Seaton Carew Golf Club, Tees Road, Seaton Carew, between 3pm and 7pm.

Paul Davison, project manager for the scheme, said: Reducing the risk of property flooding is one of our priorities and this is one of dozens of improvement schemes we will be carrying out.

Customers who require further information or who have special needs should ring Northumbrian Waters customer centre on 0845 717 1100.
