A TEESSIDE primary school is taking part in an international food campaign to encourage pupils to eat school meals.

The GetReal campaign runs next week and St Josephs RC Primary School, in Norton, is holding a themed lunch day as part of The Really Good School Dinner initiative on January 30.

The campaign is organised by the School Food Trust and supported by Stockton Borough Councils catering service, and aims to get more pupils eating school meals.

The School Food Trust has teamed up with the UN World Food Programme to demonstrate the value of a school meal, not only in this country but also in parts of the developing world.

Children can donate an extra 10p, with all money raised used by the UN World Food Programme to provide children in countries including Kenya, Cambodia and Guatemala with a school meal.

Councillor Alex Cunningham, Stockton Borough Councils cabinet member for children and young people, said: Our catering service offers healthy nutritious school meals at great value for money and its fantastic to see our school children taking an interest in this international problem.
