MOTORISTS in Stockton are being given the chance to join a new scheme to protect their vehicles from theft.

Stockton Neighbourhood Watch team are spearheading a new scheme designed to make your car noticeable to Police should it be stolen.

Bright yellow stickers with the Stockton District Vehicle Watch logo have been produced to place on the bottom, right hand side on the inside of the rear window.

Once placed on the windscreen, they are extremely difficult to remove.

The idea is to place the logo on cars that are not normally used at night.

If a car with a bright yellow Vehicle Watch sticker is spotted out at night, particularly between midnight and 5am, the vehicle will be stopped by police and checked.

Police Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator, Ron Baker said: The scheme is designed to drastically improve the likelihood of your vehicle being spotted and stopped by police should it be stolen.

Should drivers taking part in the scheme need to take their cars out at night, it is advisable to carry proof of identity and ownership as the aim of the scheme is for police officers to stop cars displaying the discs if they are spotted out on the roads at night.

Residents can join Vehicle Watch by visiting Stockton Police Station or contacting Stocktons Neighbourhood Watch liaison officer on 01642-302341.
