A MAN has been charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of a popular academic and charity fundraiser.

Andrew Brian Done, 42, of Ainderby Steeple, North Yorkshire, died after being hit by a Vauxhall Astra, on the A684, at nearby Morton-on-Swale, last September.

A 19-year-old man, who is from the Bedale area, will appear before Northallerton magistrates, on Friday, January 30.

He is also charged with driving without insurance, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, failing to report a collision and failing to surrender to bail.

After the collision, Mr Done's family spoke of his love of travel, his passion for pub quizzes and his charity fundraising through long-distance cycling and walks.

His family said: "Often regarded as something of an eccentric, he was thought of with deep affection by many people in the local community."
