A SLIP road on a major route through the region was closed this morning after a lorry overturned.
The eastbound slip road on the A66 at Bowes, near Barnard Castle is unlikely to be open before 3pm today.
The articulated lorry, carrying a mixed cargo of fruit, vegetables and meat, overturned as it came off the busy road, which links County Durham with Cumbria.
A Durham police spokesman said: "It was expected a relief wagon would have been at the scene by now to enable the load to be transferred. However, that has not happened and it will be some time before that operation can take place."
A full diversion scheme to take traffic into Barnard Castle is now in place.
