FA Cup third round day came and went. With it went the images of Ronnie Radford and a galaxy of parkas (or snorkels as we used to call them at Grange Junior School in Hartlepool) invading the pitch, the cardboard FA Cups wrapped in tin foil and the real lift tales of which the fantastic Bostock's Cup was based.

But, with ITV on Saturday night, it was a case of blink and miss it.

Their highlights show is done a bit different to the normal Match of the Day format. They tried to do things different when they showed The Premiership at 7.20 on a Saturday night.

It didn't work then and it doesn't work now.

But it possibly would work if they used some sound judgement in putting the show together.

Did we really need to see a chunk of highlights of Preston v Liverpool - a game they showed in full hours previous?

Chelsea slipped up at home to Southend, Man City were whacked by Forest and Hartlepool enjoyed one of the best wins in the club's 100-year life by seeing off Stoke.

But that Victoria Park win merited under 60 seconds coverage - yes, it wasn't even worth a minute. Just 58 seconds to be precise.

Granted they showed David Foley's thumping goal on a few occasions and billed it the goal of the round.

"Our fans were disappointed we didn't get as much coverage as they thought we deserved,'' admitted Pools media manager Mark Simpson.

But then came some good ITV news for Pools today - the fourth round tie with West Ham will be screened live. So that's a nice little earner with £160,000 added to the coffers.

And, with Chris Turner looking at a bleak transfer window, all of a sudden he can see Dean Windass in the distance.
