READERS who borrow library books are being offered the chance to win a bungee jump in a competition.

North Yorkshire County Council’s library service is running the competition with prizes of up to £250 on offer.

To take part readers must join a library and borrow a book as well as completing an entry form.

The competition form requires entrants to describe a book which has made them feel good.

The competition starts on Friday, January 9, and runs through until Saturday, January 31.

The prizes include spa vouchers or experience vouchers for events such as bungee jumping or orienteering.

Councillor Chris Metcalfe, the council’s executive member for library and information services, said: "It is well known that reading is good for you.

"Books can often help people work through difficult times and provide that feel-good factor.

"This promotion gives people a chance to write about the books that have created a sense of wellbeing as well the chance to win a prize."
