RESIDENTS are being invited to nominate a local grot spot to be spruced up in an annual clean-up campaign.

Easington District Council’s annual Pride In Easington New Year Big Clean is to be launched on Monday, January 12.

The four-week campaign will see residents and council workers join forces to target environmental problems including litter and graffiti.

This year, members of the public are being urged to identify eyesore areas for action in the big clean-up.

Coun George Patterson, the council’s executive member for Liveability and Chairman of the Pride in Easington steering group, said: "The New Year Big Clean is all about working together to improve life in the district, so if people have particular concerns about their local area we want to hear from them.

"Only by asking residents to tell us what their concerns are can we ensure we’re tackling the problems that really matter to them."

Community groups, schools and other organisations are also being asked to pledge a litter pick as part of this year’s New Year Big Clean campaign.

To nominate a grot spot, take part in a litter pick or get involved in the New Year Big Clean in any other way contact Clare Hubbard on 0191-527 0501.
