A jury was played a chilling 999 phone call to police made by a hysterical teenager just minutes after she was allegedly raped in her own home.

Jurors at Teesside Crown Court were told the call was made after a man climbed into the girl’s room.

The court was told that Lee Michael Bellwood had broken into the girl’s home by shinning up a drainpipe and entering the 17 year-old’s house via a bathroom window.

Shaun Dodds, prosecutin,g told the court: “The victim, who at the time of this attack was pregnant was dozing off at about 2.45 am, on June 8 last year.”

The victim was shocked awake when she heard a loud crash, said Mr Dodds.

“The next thing she knew her bedroom light was turned on and she saw a man standing in the doorway.

“He disappeared for a second and when he came back she saw he was holding a knife.”

As the girl sat terrified the man demanded money and the keys for a car.

Mr Dodds claimed that the defendant had apologised to the teenager before instructing his victim to take her underwear off. He said: “The victim did as she was told because she was terrified and he was holding a knife.”

After the attack as he turned to go the assailant picked up a jar full of coins – but had a change of heart when the victim begged him not to take the cash because it was for her unborn baby.

Mr Dodds said: “He again said sorry, wiped the jar with a pink sponge and placed it on the floor.”

The attacker then coolly walked out of the front door of the house.

The prosecution allege Bellwood returned home to his girlfriend looking dishevelled and told her he had just been chased.

Twenty-six-year-old Bellwood from Brignall Moor Crescent, Darlington pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, but pleaded guilty to burglary. The trial continues.
