THREE people were injured during a major fire at a North-East industrial site.
The blaze broke out shortly before 3pm today at Pearsons Industrial Estate, Hetton-le-Hole, near Houghton-le-Spring.
Northumbia Police closed the roads to traffic because of the amount of smoke and to allow firefighters to tackle the flames.
A police spokesman said: "Officers assisted Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service who were responding to a report of a large fire in an industrial unit used to store fairground equipment.
"Three people have suffered the effects of mild smoke inhalation.
"Local residents are advised to remain indoors and keep windows closed for the time being."
The fire was now under control by yesterday teatime.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be investigated.
