Police were tonight searching for an 81-year-old man who went missing in County Durham this afternoon. The pensioner is thought to have last been seen in his home community of Stanhope at 3pm. Police were joined by volunteers from the Teesdale and Weardale mountain research teams to scour fells, riverbanks and other open areas. Stanhope residents were being urged to check their outhouses. Inspector Tony Avery, of Crook Police, said: "We are very concerned about his well-being." He said the man, who was wearing black jogging bottoms,a shirt and slippers, was not appropriately dressed for the cold conditions. The man is also thought to have left home without his medication. Police appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 0345 6060365.
