SPOT checks on door staff across night-spots in Hartlepool proved they all held a valid licence.

Cleveland Police and the Security Industry Authority (SIA) checked 44 door supervisors working at seventeen different public houses and the operation was a complete success.

Lucia Howland, an SIA Head of Investigation, said: "This operation demonstrated the high levels of compliance with the law across town centre pubs and clubs.

"During the busy festive period, it is reassuring for the public that door supervisors and licensees in the area recognise the importance and value of an SIA licence."

An SIA licence costs £245.00 and door supervisors have to pass training and undergo rigorous checks to obtain the SIA licence.

PC Terry Swales, Licensing officer at Hartlepool Police Station, said: "This is excellent news for revellers who can be confident that the door supervisors in Hartlepool are well trained, supervised and properly regulated."
