There's a lot of bad news around at the moment but the story in today's Northern Echo about 84-year-old Charlie Harrison is wonderful.

Charlie has been playing tenor horn for the Cockerton Prize Silver Band in Darlington for 79 years. How incredible is that?

There's a picture of him on Page 3 as a little boy starting out with the band, and a photo of him playing at Cockerton Club on Wednesday night, nearly 80 years later.

I can't believe that the story won't be picked up by the nationals.

After all, there can't be many people who've played for the same band for 80 years.

Please let me know if you've come across anyone who can match Charlie's achievements.

* The story about Charlie was the subject of this morning's Headline Game on TFM Radio. We came up with "A noteworthy career" but Graham Mack "The Knife" gave himself a point for some old rubbish I can't even remember.

He went on to take another point off me for protesting too strongly. He's a cheat.

Anyway, I've just had an on-line entry for the interactive game from Danny Ward, of Billingham, who suggests "In a brass of his own".

Danny might be onto a winner...
