TWO railway museums have teamed up to create a remembrance project to honour former rail and munitions workers.
The National Railway Museum at Shildon, County Durham, and Head of Steam, Darlington Railway Museum are hosting the year-long Railways at War: Reserved Occupations, Our Unsung Heroes to ensure the railways’ history is remembered by future generations.
The intergenerational project focuses on remembrance, recognition, and the identity of veteran railway workers before the system became nationalised, particularly those who worked in the industry during the Second World War.
A mobile exhibition featuring interactive learning tools will also be available for local schools.
Both museums are keen to hear from former railway and munitions workers, or their family members, to contribute information or photographs to use in the project.
To get involved, contact Tony Attle at Locomotion on 01388-771444 or Sarah Gouldsbrough at Head of Steam on 01325-734128.
