PUPILS have taken inspiration from the famous landmarks on their doorstep to decorate their unique festive baubles.

Children from Normanby Primary School in on the outskirts of Middlesbrough turned their school Christmas tree into a celebration of Teesside with a selection of specially created Christmas ornaments.

The baubles, an education initiative by the Area Tourism Partnership visitTeesvalley, have been designed to allow pupils from 208 schools to create their own festive versions of some of the top visitor attractions in the area.

Each of the baubles featured a variety of black and white scenes for pupils to decorate in their own style such as art gallery mima, the Tall Ships at Hartlepool, Gisborough Priory and Castlegate Quay in Stockton.

Carl Faulkner, Head Teacher at Normanby Primary School said, "Our school Christmas tree looks fantastic thanks to the creative hard work of our pupils to make decorations with a real local feel which parents and pupils can enjoy."

The first 50 pupils to hang their baubles from the tree at the Castlegate Shopping Centre in Stockton will receive a free family pass to the Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience and Head of Steam, Darlington Railway Museum. Julia Frater, Head of Visit Tees Valley said, "Each design was carefully chosen to showcase some of the most recognisable spots in the area, and judging by some of their colourful interpretations of the likes of the Transporter Bridge and Head of Steam in Darlington, the images provided real inspiration from our best-loved visitor attractions.
