SCORES of music lovers were entertained by performers and singers from a local school.

Youngsters from the Allertonshire School in Northallerton gave a festive concert to the town’s Probus Club in the Methodist church, as part of what has become an annual showcase for the school’s musical talent.

The Blues Orchestra performed numbers under the baton of music teacher Adrian Bramley, as did the woodwind, saxophone and singing groups.

Pupils also played side by side with members of staff and a handful of talented young players from the area’s junior schools.

The performers were thanked by Probus club president, Henry Dyson, who said he was particularly pleased to see so many boys performing, when previous concerts had seen the gender balance tipped in favour of the girls.

Allertonshire School headteacher David Bradley told the audience: "It’s always an enormous privilege for me to come to the Probus concert and I’m absolutely delighted with the musicians here.

"The standards they are achieving are absolutely wonderful and I’m very proud of each and every one of them."

Money raised by last year’s concert went to buy jazz orchestra music to play during a concert tour of Paris and Ormesson – Northallerton’s French twin town – in May.

* The blues orchestra’s next concert, in aid of the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Airmen and Families’ Association, is at Northallerton’s All Saints’ Church on May 7.
