A TEENAGE boy has told how he feared he would die after having his throat slit by a close friend during a drinking binge.

The 16-year-old boy, who has not been named for legal reasons, gave evidence via video link at Teesside Crown Court yesterday when friend Christopher Pain went on trial for his attempted murder.

At one point, when asked to show the jury the scars on his neck, the boy, from Middlesbrough, cried.

Mr Pain, 18, is accused of lashing out with a kitchen knife in the early hours of a morning in August, as they were dancing and drinking.

“He just came at me with a knife and I remember blood all over,” said the boy.

“He made contact with my neck. Blood was pouring down my body. It was all over the front room, up the walls and everything.

“I thought I was going to die. He was psycho.”

The court was told that Mr Pain, 18, of Kelfield Avenue, Middlesbrough, had gone to the boy’s home earlier that night to celebrate the victim’s brother coming out of prison.

He was there for some hours, drinking cider with the victim’s family and friends, until the victim arrived home in the early hours of the morning.

He had been at another friend’s house, where he had drunk eight bottles of lager before going home and carrying on drinking.

Everyone at the house left or went to bed, leaving the two teenagers alone. They drank cider, had two shots of vodka and orange each and started dancing in the living room.

Mr Pain then accused the boy of “banging him” as they danced, before slashing him across the throat with the small knife, the court was told.

The boy said he tried to get upstairs to get his mum’s help, but Mr Pain tried to push him down before stabbing him again. He suffered four knife wounds to his neck and jaw and now has a lazy eye.

Defence barrister Brian Russell accused the victim of picking up the knife first, at the same time that he allegedly punched Mr Pain, which the boy denied.

Mr Pain admits wounding with intent, but denies attempted murder.

The trial continues.
