Barrow will be transported back to the 1950s next week as a new show hits the stage.

The Barrow Operatic and Dramatic Society (BODS) is returning to wow crowds in Cumbria at The Forum from Tuesday, May 14.

Following a fabulous trip down the yellow brick road and a musical extravaganza through the decades in 2023, BODS is excited to bring Guys and Dolls to life for a local audience.

Steve Carrick, the director of the show, said: “Guys and Dolls, one of the most iconic of Broadway musicals, is currently undergoing a hugely successful revival in the West End.

"It has been a thoroughly enjoyable period of rehearsal with BODS, reimagining the joy and fun of 1950's New York."

The show tells the love stories of Sarah Brown, played by Aimee Ashurst, and Sky Masterson, played by Sam Southern, as well as Nathan Detroit, played by Rogan Devlin, and Miss Adelaide, played by Katie Priss.

Joining Steve on the production team is Sally Blake as choreographer and, making her debut as musical director, Emma Richardson.

Guys and Dolls features memorable songs such as the eponymous hit, as well as 'Sit Down You're Rockin The Boat', 'If I Were A Bell' and 'I've Never Been In Love Before'.

Katie Priss, who is playing Miss Adelaide, commented: “Rehearsals for Guys and Dolls have been a blast - we’ve loved the process and enjoyed developing some really fun characters.

"Playing Adelaide has always been a dream of mine - she’s kooky and provides a bit of comic relief in the show - and I’m particularly looking forward to singing the classic ‘Adelaide’s Lament’.

"I act mostly opposite Rogan Devlin, who is an absolute talent and I feel very lucky to be working with such a brilliant, hard working cast."

'Broadway comes to The Forum' from Tuesday May 14 to Saturday May 18.

Tickets are £12 on Tuesday, then £15 for the remainder of the week and are available online or from the box office.
