An investigation has been launched following a fly-tipping and arson incident in Bishop Auckland yesterday.

Durham County Council have confirmed they are investigating after the waste was dumped at Dam Head in Bishop Auckland yesterday evening (April 9).

The council said wardens were able to contact the fire service before the blaze got out of control.

A Durham County Council spokesperson said: “Neighbourhood Wardens are investigating a fly tip which has been a target for Arson this evening.

“The fly tip has occurred at Dam Head, Bishop Auckland.

“Luckily SW101 and SW113 intercepted the fire and called our colleagues at County Durham & Darlington Fire and Rescue Service before it got out of control.
