An appeal has been launched after a woman was injured in a suspected assault in County Durham.

Durham Police is appealing for witnesses after the victim suffered a head injury in Ouston, near Chester-le-Street at around 8.30pm on March 28.

They added the victim was seen walking along Outston Lane by a group of women who gave her first aid at The Red Lion Pub.

Officers added they wish to these women as potential witnesses and are urging them to come forward.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was injured in a suspected assault.

“The victim sustained a head injury during an incident in Ouston on the evening of Thursday, March 28 and was spotted walking along Ouston Lane at about 8.30pm by a group of women.

“They took her into The Red Lion pub where she received first aid.

“Officers are keen to speak to these women as potential witnesses and are urging them to come forward.

“A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and bailed pending further investigation.
