A big-name brand based in County Durham has announced that it will close its doors permanently next month after 30 years of business at the location.

Poundstretcher, which is based on Essington Way in Peterlee, has been serving customers for three decades at the branch - but has now revealed that it will be closing down on May 15.

The high street chain has locations across the UK, through its Poundstretcher and Bargain Buys brands, including in Stanley, Newton Aycliffe and Bishop Auckland among others in County Durham.

The news of the upcoming closure was announced by area manager Gary McNamee, who said that there was currently a 50 per cent closing down sale at the Peterlee branch.

In the final month of trade, customers of the store have been urged to support the shop by buying its remains stock.

The building of Poundstretcher in Peterlee is based next to OneGym.

Poundstretcher will be closing to make way for a new development  - but customers who like the brand will still have stores at Bishop Auckland, Stanley, Newcastle and Durham to visit.

Established in 1981, Poundstretcher sells over 2,000 products, including a wide range of branded products at low prices, including groceries, toiletries, kitchenware, bedding, bathroom products, furniture, and children’s toys.

Previously, it's been known to do 50 per cent sales at its stores to shift on stock, but, on this occasion, images shared with The Northern Echo show that the Peterlee branch is due to a closing down sale.
