We have compiled a useful list of the County Durham roads closed for major roadworks this month.

Several busy roads in the region will be closed this April to carry out works such as repairs, water network upgrades, and improvements.

These closures will affect routes in Darlington, Barnard Castle, and Murton.

Darlington A1M junction roundabout

The southern half of the Aycliffe Interchange, Junction 59, in Darlington will close overnight from Tuesday (April 2) to (April 3) from 8pm to 6am while bridge deck repairs are carried out.

Following this, the roundabout will be closed from 6am on Friday (April 5) for around 10 weeks to allow for concrete repairs.

B6278, north of Dent Gate Lane in Barnard Castle

Northumbrian Water has confirmed there will be a temporary road closure on B6278, north of Dent Gate Lane in Barnard Castle, beginning on April 2.

The closure will last 11 days while pipelaying works are carried out.

A signposted diversion has been put in place and Northumbria Water have said they hope to reopen the road “as quickly as possible.”

A19 southbound between the junctions with the A181 Wellfield Interchange and the A179 at Sheraton

The road will be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am the following morning, each night except for Saturdays for resurfacing works.

The works began on April 2 and are expected to take six weeks to complete.

During the day, a 50mph speed limit will be in place.

Diversions have been signposted for motorists heading for the A19 southbound in this area at B1320 Burnhope Way, Surtees Road and Yoden Way to Horden.

A19/A182 junction and Dalton Park signals, near Jade Business Park, Murton

Works to improve traffic flow and enhance capacity at the A19 / A182 junction, to facilitate commercial development at Jade business park, will take place until late April according to Durham County Council.

24-hour lane closures will be in place to allow for the increase of the existing number of traffic lanes on the A182 bridge, spanning the A19.

Footbridge preparation works will also take place between April 6 and April 8 from 8pm to 6am.

The A182 road bridge will be fully closed, while there will also be closures on A19 off-slip road outer lane.

Diversions will be in place directing those travelling north on the A19 to exit at the A1018 northbound, proceeding to Ryhope roundabout, turning onto the A1018 southbound, heading south on the A19 and exiting at Cold Hesledon.

While those travelling south on the A19 should exit at Easington junction, perform a u-turn at Little Thorpe roundabout, and head north on the A19 before exiting at Cold Hesledon.

A full closure will also be in place on the A19 Northbound.
