A man has appeared in court following an incident which left a road in a North East town cordoned off for several hours.
Mohammed Hussain, 34, appeared in Teesside Magistrates' Court yesterday (Thursday, March 21) following an incident in Elwick Road, Hartlepool, on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old man, of no fixed abode, has been charged with five counts of assault on an emergency worker and arson with intent to endanger life.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Crown Court on April 18.

Emergency services were called to Elwick Road in Hartlepool at 9.30am on Tuesday after a man barricaded himself inside a property.
The surrounding area was sealed off from around 9.30am until the following morning with firefighters and paramedics on stand-by to support the police operation.
