A residential street in a North East town remains cordoned off this evening (Tuesday, March 19) as armed police, paramedics and fire fighters deal with an ongoing incident.
Emergency services descended on a property in Elwick Road, Hartlepool, after officers were first seen entering a property with shields and protective clothing at about 9.30am.
Crews from North East Ambulance Service, Cleveland Fire Brigade were called in on "protective standby".
The nature of the incident has not been officially confirmed, though activity was focused around one property, where officers, paramedics and firefighters were seen entering throughout the day.
At about 2pm armed officers arrived at the scene and were seen filing into the property.
At one point smoke could be seen coming from the roof and firefighters entered with a hose.
Later, officers with A1 pads and a mirror on a stick entered the house. A police drone was launched a couple of times too.
A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Cleveland Fire Brigade are currently in attendance at an incident on Elwick Road, Hartlepool.“One fire engine from Hartlepool is on protective standby whilst police deal with the ongoing incident. Please avoid the area.”
A North East Ambulance Spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.32am this morning (Tuesday 19 March) to reports of an incident at a private address on Elwick Road in Hartlepool.
"We dispatched two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a duty officer, and two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene.

"We are currently still on-scene providing support to our emergency services colleagues.”
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said earlier: “Officers are currently dealing with an ongoing incident on Elwick Road in Hartlepool. Please avoid the area whilst the incident is dealt with.”
The police have been contacted for further information.
