A DJ with a passion for vinyl and an authority on new equipment and technology is headlining an all-vinyl set in a Darlington pub.

Mojaxx will be spinning some discs at the DL21 Hole In The Wall on Saturday night.

DL21 is the brainchild of Darlington-based DJ James Watson - aka Mr Watson. His monthly radio show is recorded in Darlington and goes out on Method Radio (Newcastle), Soul Roots Radio (London) and The Face Radio (Brooklyn, New York).

Originally from the south coast, Mojaxx moved to Newcastle in the early 2000s and has made his name producing YouTube videos for Beatsource, focussing on new DJ tech and giving out tips and tricks of the trade.

Mojaxx, who has been DJing for about 30 years, said he is excited to be performing in Darlington for the first time in a decade.

"As well as new tech, I have a love for classic vinyl performances - taking DJing back to its roots," he said.

"A lot of small venues are struggling right now and I think it's really important to support them and people putting music on for their local community.

"I'm all for what James is doing in Darlington, it's important to keep that local music scene going.

"I'm over the moon to be part of something that brings that music and culture to the community and to be part of that grassroots music scene."

The event is the second of its kind, following the appearance at the end of last year by international DJ Smoove - one half of  Tyneside-based soul and funk band Smoove and Turrell.

Mojaxx said: "Smoove and Turrell are very much the standard bearers for that kind of music in the North East, so I'm always delighted to be following in Smoove's footsteps because we both share a passion for seven-inch vinyl."

Mr Watson said: "After the success of the first DL21 event at The Hole In The Wall where people were queuing to get into the room, I couldn’t wait to get organising the second one.

"To have Mojaxx headlining a fantastic lineup of DJ’s from all around the North East is a real coup.  Mojaxx is a highly respected DJ and technology geek.  He is a master at mixing and his choice of tunes always gets a venue dancing."

Mojaxx will be supported by Darlington’s own Scott Wetherill, who will be bringing the Funky Disco and King Fred from the Criss Cross Rhythm Show on Method Radio, and will playing Afrobeat Disco.

Mr Watson, who said he had more events in the pipeline for the rest of 2024, added: "The Hole In The Wall will be bouncing and I for one can’t wait. Working alongside The Hole In The Wall, Darlington For Culture and Method Radio to bring my DL21 radio show alive with Music and DJ’s I love is a dream come true."

DL21 is at the Hole In The Wall, Market Square, Darlington, on Saturday, February 16 from 7pm to midnight. Free entry before 9pm, £5 afterwards.
