Police are searching for a man who got away from officers at the end of a police chase.

The man escaped officers after a 'short' chase on Sunday (March 10) afternoon, at about 1.30pm in the Longlands area of Middlesbrough.

He had been driving a white Ford Focus which police say was “seen in suspicious circumstances with an off-road bike” when the pursuit began.

The white Ford was abandoned on Lythe Place and the driver made off.  It was later reported stolen and has since been seized.

Officers believe the man made off onto Sandford Close, then Newington Road before getting in another white car which drove away.

Cleveland Police are now searching for the man who was wearing all dark clothing and a balaclava.

Anyone who may know the man’s identity is being asked to contact police.

A force spokesperson said: “Anyone who may have information regarding the identity of the driver, or the theft of the vehicle, is asked to contact PC Waugh from Cleveland Police on 101, ref 043826.”
