A classic car restorer is set to feature on a popular TV series once again this month, as fans of the show are excited at the prospect of its return.

John Arkley, of the long established JB Arkley & Son on Graythorp Industrial Estate, has previously featured on show Bangers and Cash restoring classics.

He is due to appear on the new series on the Yesterday Channel after the TV cameras paid him a visit.

In 2022, John was seen on the show restoring a 1938 MG SA car which he bought at auction in a previous episode of Bangers and Cash.

This time, the programme features him selling two classic vehicles at auction.

One is a 1960s Morris Minor van while the second is a 1953 MG Y Type.

While all the show isn't filmed in the North East, those from the region who will be tuning in will be excited to see JB Arkley & Son and the surrounding landscape in the upcoming series.

Following filming, John, 50, said: “I had them for 20 odd years each. They were both complete wrecks when I originally got them.

"Me and my late dad Brian, who died a few years ago, restored them.”

He added: “The producer of the programme rang me up and asked if they could come back and film me again and I said yes. They said that they had received some fantastic feedback on my last telly appearance so they wanted me to do more.

"They came here for two days and filmed me finishing the cars off before they were picked up when one of the sons of the auctioneer came to collect them.

"I  felt a touch sad as they took them away.”

The cameras follow their journey to Mathewsons Auctions, near Pickering, where they went under the hammer.

John, of Foggy Furze, Hartlepool, said: “I got pretty much exactly what I predicted for them which was more than the auctioneer thought.

"I have really enjoyed being on the show as it has brought some incredible awareness to my business from all around the globe.

"Some of the specialist vintage car magazines and newspapers have been in touch for my work to be featured in their magazines – it’s all very humbling. You graft away and when people recognise and then highlight your skills it feels really good ”

Viewers worldwide will get to see how much they sold for when the episode featuring John is planned to go on air Thursday, March 14 at 8pm on the Yesterday Channel.
