Police have seized parts from several Land Rovers in a crackdown following a rise in thefts of the vehicles in County Durham and Darlington.

Officers arrested one person following a raid in Leadgate, near Consett, on Thursday (February 15).

Teams from Bishop Auckland, Consett Police and Durham City police were involved in the operation.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "A morning of action targeting criminality across the county has seen one arrest and several vehicles parts seized.

"Officers executed a magistrates warrant at Leadgate, in Consett, on Thursday (February 15).

"Teams from Bishop Auckland Police, Consett Police and Durham City Police were involved in the activity in relation to suspected stolen Land Rovers.

"Parts from four Land Rover vehicles were recovered from the scene."

Police arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of handling stolen goods. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

T/Detective Sergeant Steven Gill of Bishop Auckland CID said: “This operation has included multiple teams across the county and has targeted those believed to be connected to suspected stolen Land Rovers.

“We have recently seen a rise in Land Rover thefts across County Durham and Darlington and today’s warrant shows our ongoing efforts to prevent more victims of vehicle thefts."
