A County Durham town's first ever comic convention will include guests from some of the most iconic film and TV shows of the last few decades.

Cliffecon, a new comic con will be hosted in Newton Aycliffe with celebrity guests appearing along with photo opportunities, cosplay competitions and more.

Among the big names appearing include Hollywood special effects supervisor Kevin Pike whose work has been used in major films such as Back to the Future, Jaws and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Northumberland-based prop artist Ray Phillps will also be at Cliffecon. His props will be well known to fans for Doctor Who as he will be bringing his Dalek puppets along with him.

Actress and model Caroline Munro, best known for her appearances in high profile movies The Spy Who Loved Me, Dracula AD 1972 and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad - will also be attending.

Christopher Ryan - Mike in the Young Ones and General Staal in Doctor Who - is another of the confirmed attendees.

CBBC fan favorites Phil Fletcher and Hacker T. Dog, well known for their BAFTA nominated TV show Hacker Time will make an appearance. Stars of the horror film Pooh: Blood and Honey, Amber Doig-Thorne and Natash Rose Mills, are also scheduled to be there .

North East mural artist Dan Walls is on the guest list with more special guests set to be announced over the coming weeks.

Orgaisers say Cliffecon promises to be a great value day out for all the family offering attractions such as photo opportunity with a DeLorean DMC-12, The Iron Throne, Groot and more. There will be an animal roadshow where you could meet up to 20 types of different creatures and a face painter.

There will also be dozens of stalls selling action figures, original artwork, books and more.

The event will be hosted on Saturday, May 18, at the Oak Leaf Sports Complex in Newton Aycliffe. Tickets can be purchased at cutefox.co.uk, children under five enter for free. Adult tickets cost £5 with children’s tickets for those over the age of five being £3.
