The weather is set to be mild today with the North East expected to see overcast cloud and rain.

According to the Met Office, Darlington residents can expect a rainy start this morning (January 9), clearing up around the afternoon.

Following this, the region can expect brighter spells with the wind easing.

The forecaster has predicted clear spells across the region tonight which will see temperatures to drop with widespread frost by dawn. 

There will be a maximum temperature of 10 °C today, with the region expecting a minimum temperature of -1 °C tonight.

The forecaster has also warned residents to expect snow on Thursday (February 8) and Friday (February 9) after issuing a yellow weather warning for the region.
