An investigation has been launched after three County Durham streets were targeted by vandals who daubed items in the streets with purple graffiti.

Police and community wardens for the council are looking into the incidents, which saw streets in Chester Le Street have lettering and symbols drawn on by vandals.

It's believed that the graffiti, which appeared over the weekend on Avondale Terrace, Pine Street, and Victor Street, was maliciously painted by a person or group of people in Chester-Le-Street.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Durham County Council's wardens said: "Neighbourhood Wardens are investigating graffiti that has occurred at Avondale Terrace, Pine and Victor Street in Chester Le Street alongside Chester-Le-Street Police."

Following the act of vandalism, members of the public have been urged to contact Durham County Council's wardens on 03000 260 000 if they know anything about the incident.

In images that were shared by Durham County Council wardens, some of the graffiti has been blurred out, due to the obscenities involved in the vandalism.

But in other images, the graffiti can be seen clearly, with police and council wardens asking for people who recognise the graffiti or who may have been responsible.
