Northumbrian Water have revealed a list of the ten strangest things that they have found in the sewers.

Teams of sewer operatives are constantly working around the region working hard at to keep the system blockage-free. 

They are often shocked by the things they find causing the problems.

Here is a list of some of the strangest things they have found in North East sewers:

A pair of false teeth.

Simon Cyhanko, Head of Wastewater Networks at Northumbrian Water, said: "You’d think that by now our teams wouldn’t be shocked by what they find, but every now and then they come across something that leaves them scratching their heads.

"We wonder how some of this stuff ends up being flushed down the toilet, but we know that accidents happen – and we’ve all had that moment of panic when you accidentally drop something down the toilet before!

"However, it’s always important to remember that only paper, pee and poo should go down the loo. Aside from the random objects our teams find, the main cause of blockages still remains to be wet wipes.

"Wipes and other items may leave your toilet bowl when flushed, these can clog up your plumbing and cause avoidable plumber callout charges. Even biodegradable products, such as wipes, don't break down as quickly as toilet paper and can linger in sewer pipes, contributing to blockages.

"So please, bin the wipe."
