Today we name people who have been fined in court after failing to comply with community protection notices requiring them to remove waste from their gardens and yards. 

Their cases were heard at Peterlee Magistrates' Court and were brought under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

Magistrates were told they failed to follow the notices issued by Durham County Council.

Andrew Baxter, of Dawdon Crescent, Seaham, consistently disregarded a notice demanding the clean-up of accumulations of waste in his yard.

The land became defaced by litter and refuse - against the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime, and Policing Act 2014. 

He was handed the community notice on July 21, 2023, but chose to ignore it. 

Baxter was eventually brought before the Peterlee Magistrates' Court on January 3, 2024.

However, Baxter was not present in the courtroom itself.

The court handed Baxter a fine of £220.

He was also ordered to pay an £88 surcharge, along with a payment of £456 in costs.

The total amount to pay for Baxter to pay is £764.

Emma Louise Henderson, of Basingstoke Road, Peterlee, failed to comply with a community protection notice that had been issued against her.

The notice was regarding accumulations of waste in her yard that continued to litter and deface the land.

At Peterlee Magistrates Court on January 2, she was handed a fine of £220, ordered to pay a surcharge of £88 to fund victim services and costs of £418.

A collection order was made for the total balance of £726, which is to be paid by January 31, 2024. 

A woman from Stanley was hit with a hefty fine for ignoring a community protection notice.

Jennifer Allison, of Parmeter Street, South Moor, was ordered to pay £913 by Peterlee Magistrates' Court on January 3.

According to the court, she failed to clear accumulations of waste in her yard, despite being issued a notice on July 13, 2023.

Allison was fined £220 and ordered to pay an £88 surcharge to fund victim services and £605 in costs.

She will have to make full payment by January 31, 2024.

Sacriston resident Leeann Wilson, of Davison Terrace, did not comply with a community protection notice handed to her on June 16, 2023, after Wilson allowed waste to clutter and deface her land.

Her case was heard at Peterlee Magistrates' Court on January 3, 2024 - which saw her handed a fine of £220.

She was also ordered to pay £88 victim surcharge and costs amounting to £418. 

While not present in court, a collection order was set against Wilson.

The total balance of £726 is to be paid by January 31, 2024.
