2030. That doesn’t seem that far away, does it? With 2024 right around the corner, it’s only 6 years away. Well, according to a 2018 UN study, that’s how much time we have until irreversible climate disruption. Doesn’t that make you think twice about those unnecessary car journeys?

I was recently in contact with a Northern electronic manufacturing company, Turbo Power Systems (TPS), to discuss their plans to combat climate change and how they are becoming more environmentally friendly. TPS’s CEO, Carlos Neves, told me about how he feels that a major issue faced by businesses aiming to adapt to become more environmentally friendly is the mindset of the business and about how “[breaking] this mindset in every individual in the organisation is a task that requires massive effort” and how this could easily cause these adaptations to take “years rather than months to generate the expected results''. As well as this, the “effort of adapting current products and supply chain to be environmentally friendly” “will require a major financial effort”. So that is what restricts us from conducting these vital changes, but what is actually being done to combat a horrific fate? Neves told me that “TPS has been producing electrical machines and power electronics systems that replaced fossil fuel systems like diesel gensets and oil/lubricants based systems” for the last four decades, demonstrating their desire to better the environment and protect our future. Because of their perseverance, TPS expects to “cross the barrier of 1.0 M tons of CO2 savings per annum” by 2025.

Furthermore, Neves told me about how he believes that “all governments will have to engage heavily and commit more with strong tax policies and tighter legislations around the use of fossil fuels”. Clearly, it is not solely the responsibility of individuals or even certain businesses to reduce emissions, especially seeing as 71% of emissions are the fault of 100 companies, it is down to governments across the world to tighten legislations and limit those companies’ opportunities to be able to produce those emissions.

So, what do you do to help prevent the irreversible changes of climate change? What could you be doing?

As for businesses, what does the future hold? Well with the right mindset and approach, the future is bright, the future is green.
