There is much to look forward to in the new year as Newcastle Theatre Royal announces the upcoming shows for 2024.

With showstopping West-End classics, breath-taking dance performances, brand new page-to-stage adaptations, and an adult-only take on a Disney classic; there is something for everyone.

Funny, fabulous and feel-good musical, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is on from Tuesday to Saturday, January 16 to 20 and features an all-star cast, including Giovanna Fletcher, John Partridge and Shobna Gulati.

Legendary tale, Blood Brothers returns to the venue Tuesday, January 30 until Saturday, February 3and Life of Pi from Tuesday to Saturday, January 23 to 27, promises jaw-dropping visuals and world-class puppetry.

Classical ballet fans can enjoy Scottish Ballet’s brand-new production of Cinders showing Wednesday 7 until Saturday 10 February with an exciting casting surprise in store at each performance. Mischief return with the riotous spin on a timeless classic, the West End smash hit Peter Pan Goes Wrong will be shown from Monday, February 12 until Saturday, February 17.

After selling out in 2023, Basic Lee sees Stewart Lee return as one man, with one microphone on Sunday 11 February. Audiences can join us in conversation with David Suchet on Sunday, February 18 as he discusses some of his most memorable and beloved performances in a new and intimate light.

For over the February half-term Gaz and his mates will be baring all in The Full Monty from Tuesday, February 27 until Saturday, March 2. Family tale, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is showing from Friday to Sunday, February 23 to 25 and inspirational stage show Fantastically Great Women is showing from Wednesday to Sunday, February 21 to 25.

Visiting the venue in partnership with Dance Consortium; Sao Paulo Dance Company on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 5 and 6 fuse the elegance of classical ballet with the sensuality of Latin American Dance. For the youngsters hit show Bluey’s Big Play will be showing Friday, March 8 until Sunday, March 10.

Opera North bring Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte on Thursday, March 14 and Saturday, March 16, a light-hearted romantic comedy filled with disguises, seduction, and surprises as well as double bill Cavalleria Rusticana / Aleko on Wednesday, March 13 and Friday, March 15 - the tale of a soldier who returns from war to find his lover has married.

Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures perform their take on Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands from Wednesday, March 27 until Saturday, April 6. Alfred Hitchcock’s spy thriller The 39 Steps, will be on stage Tuesday, April 9 until Saturday,  April 13 and is brilliantly recreated for the stage as four fearless actors play 139 roles in a performance full of fast-paced fun and action.

CaroleW Productions will also take over the Studio stage with their production Limelight on Tuesday, April 9 until Saturday, April 13, which is based on the career of Julia St George, a star of the Victorian stage born on Broad Chare in Newcastle.

Starring RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner and Dancing On Ice star The Vivienne as The Wicked Witch Of The West, there’s no place like Newcastle Theatre Royal when The Wizard of Oz lands Tuesday, April 16 until Sunday, April 21 and Wor Bella returns to Newcastle on Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28.

Rambert Dance Company visit Newcastle with their darkly funny dance-comedy entitled Death Trap on Wednesday, April 24 and Thursday, April 25.

In a best-selling novel to stage adaptation The Boy at the Back of the Class will be on stage from Tuesday, April 30 until Saturday, May 4 and balances heart and humour in an unexpected and adventure which highlights the power of friendship.

Kay Mellor’s The Syndicate is showing from Tuesday, May 7 until Saturday, May 11, starring The Wanted’s Max George. It follows the lives of five supermarket employees whose lottery syndicate numbers come in, just as their jobs and livelihoods are under threat. Cluedo 2 – The Next Chapter on Tuesday, May 28 until Saturday, June 1, brings the classic board game to life.

Featuring the beautiful music of Danny Elfman and TV dance sensation Johannes Radebe, House of JoJo is set to raise the roof in on Sunday, May 19.

Bursting with razor-sharp wit, Drop The Dead Donkey on Tuesday, May 21 until Saturday, May 25, starring its original TV cast members, will leave you in stitches and following their multi-award-winning sell-out success.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is set to excite the next generation of fans as it flies into the region on Tuesday, June 4 until Saturday, June 8, featuring unforgettable songs including Toot Sweets and Truly Scrumptious.

The Kite Runner will also grace the stage from Tuesday, June 25 until Saturday, June 29, openintg direct from Broadway.

It’s an adult night-out when Unfortunate plays on Tuesday, July 2 until Thursday, July 4,  giving Ursula a chance to give her side of the classic tale The Little Mermaid. The legendary queen is ready to spill, in this tell-all tale of sex and sorcery.

Promising to make you ‘Move It, Move It!’ Madagascar The Musical is showing Wednesday, July 10 until Saturday, July 13.

Newcastle Musical Theatre Company will also bring the smash-hit musical West Side Story to life on Tuesday, July 30 until Saturday, August 3. The incredible, Come From Away showing from Tuesday, August 6 until Saturday, August 17, shares the real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers who were grounded in Canada in the wake of 9/11.

In the Summer holidays, younger audiences will enjoy Peppa Pig’s Fun Day Out from Wednesday, August 21 and Thursday, August 22 - packed full of songs, dances and muddy puddles, this perfect introduction to theatre guarantees giggles and snorts for all. 101 Dalmatians: The Musical also bounds into Newcastle for one week only on Tuesday, August 27 until Sunday, September, 1.

NOW That’s What I Call A Musical, arrives on its first ever UK tour directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood on Tuesday, October 8 until Saturday, October 12. For an evening bursting with hits from Whitney Houston, Blondie, Tears For Fears, Spandau Ballet, Wham! and so many more.

Q Dance Company will visit Newcastle to perform Re:Incarnation from Tuesday, October 15 and Wednesday, October 16, an ode to the richness of Nigerian culture, in which dance, musical and visual art creations are bursting with uncompromising joy.

From Monday, November 11 until Saturday November 16 audiences will be transported back to 1960’s Baltimore, where Tracy Turnblad dreams of dancing her way onto national TV, when Hairspray visits Newcastle!

The 2024 festive pantomime The Little Mermaid will see Newcastle Theatre Royal favourites Danny Adams and Clive Webb return for their 19th year, alongside singer songwriter Joe McElderry and legendary panto dame Chris Hayward.

Further ahead into 2025 Only Fools and Horses The Musical has also been revealed to be visiting Newcastle on Monday, February 10 until Saturday, February 22, 2025.

Also set to join in 2025, '& Juliet', which will see the audience whisked away on a fabulous journey as Juliet ditches her famous ending for a fresh beginning and a second chance at life and love—her way from Monday, June 2 until Saturday, June 7, 2025.
