Police were last night dealing with an incident in Bishop Auckland with crime scene investigators pictured at the scene.

Officers descended on the West Lane and Weardale Drive areas of the County Durham town with a large cordon erected.

A blue forensics tent was in place outside of a property with crime scene investigators pictured working at the scene and officers manning the cordon.

The nature of the incident is not yet known. We have contacted Durham Police for more information.

There are unconfirmed reports of armed police vehicles being spotted on Scott Road, around a 10-minute walk away from West Lane. It is not clear whether this is linked to the cordon.
