With the dark nights among us and the cold weather slowly creeping in, you’d be forgiven for wanting to stay anywhere but along the Scottish coast. But the Old Manor Hotel in Lundin Links will change your mind and have you heading for a stay along the picturesque Fife Coast faster than you can say “come back summer!”

The Northern Echo:

The Old Manor Hotel is a charming gem, nestled amidst lush gardens, with stunning views of Largo Bay and the surrounding countryside. The idyllic setting and glorious sea views offer a delightfully tranquil escape.

Entering the hotel, I was struck by the light and welcome openness of the reception area, adorned with elegant furnishings with modern touches. The staff were polite and helpful, advising on the best time to book your table in the hotel’s adjoining Seaview restaurant and ensuring you don’t sleep in and miss breakfast!

Our room was beautifully appointed, blending classic elegance with modern comfort, spacious, and immaculately clean, with a beautiful view of the gardens and coast. The ensuite bathroom was equally impressive, with all the amenities one could need for a comfortable stay.

After a three-hour drive, we freshened up, had a brew and headed out to explore the local area. After a walk along the coastal route, we arrived at Lower Largo, offering a magnificent bay with fabulous views across the Forth Estuary. Even at twilight, this stunning village exudes a charm that will leave you feeling wholesome and embracing the autumn evenings. After a quick pint in the local pub, we headed back to the Old Manor Hotel where we had booked a table at the Seaview Restaurant.

The Northern Echo:

The restaurant is a culinary delight. The menu featured dishes including local ingredients and it truly reflected its Scottish heritage. In for a penny, in for a pound, we embraced Scottish tradition and started our journey through Scotland with a traditional Cullen Skink. The reach seafood ‘soup’ was served with a warm cheese scone which melted in your mouth, it was an exceptional dining experience which set the atmosphere for the main course. Sticking with our journey through Scotland, we opted for the chicken stuffed with haggis, served with potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and a creamy whisky sauce, it was the perfect way to start our stay. We were both pretty stuffed at this point, so we skipped dessert, but the Seaview Restaurant offers a fantastic range of desserts that left me full of regret at not sampling any.

The service was perfect and the pride the staff hold for the Old Manor Hotel is apparent in their knowledge of the menu, recommendations, and sheer joy in serving you.

Breakfast followed much of the same tone. We indulged in a proper Scottish breakfast, haggis included, as well as some of the cereals on offer and plenty of coffee. The torrential downpour did not detract from the glorious scenes of lush green fields and Fife Coast that are offered by the Seaview Restaurant.

The Northern Echo:

The hotel's location in Lundin Links is ideal for exploring the surrounding area. The nearby golf courses, coastal walks, and historic attractions provide ample opportunities for exploration and relaxation. A 20 minute drive away is the historic St Andrews, so despite the rain, we piled into the car and headed there for the day. Even though the rain left us soaking wet, we had a brilliant morning exploring St Andrews, from a wet and windy coast to the iconic town centre, it was a glorious place and it is on the list to return to in the summer!

After the rest of our trip was rained off, we headed back to the hotel where we spent the rest of the day waiting out the rain. Fortunately, the room came equipped with a TV with Netflix capabilities that worked so we indulged in a lazy afternoon. Once the rain had stopped, we headed down into Leven where we had fish and chips (or in my case a smoked sausage) on the coast. It was reminiscent of trips we’d taken before, and it was a comforting end to the day.

The Old Manor Hotel in Lundin Links is a rare find, where history, luxury, and warm hospitality converge. Whether you're seeking a romantic getaway, a peaceful retreat, or a base for exploring the beautiful Fife coast, this hotel has it all.

One final Scottish breakfast later, it was time for us to check out, full of haggis, elation and feeling like we’d truly embraced the Scottish spirit of the Fife Coast. It was a stay to remember!
