Forecasters predict more settled conditions this week as the region recovers from Storm Babet.

According to the Met Office it will going to be a bright day on Monday with some cloud, with an unsettled picture into the rest of the week.

For the North East today (October 23) it’ll be a cold and frosty start with some patches of ice and fog in places, although this will clear during the morning leaving an afternoon of sunny spells.

You’ll be able to leave the umbrella at home as it will be largely dry with cloud and a breeze expected as the day goes on. Temperatures could reach highs of 12C.

Into the evening cloud will continue to build, forecasters say, with an area of rain arriving in Southern parts in the early hours of the morning.

The picture of cloud and dull skies with the odd patch of sun breaking through will continue into Tuesday and the rest of the week.

The Met Office say there is a degree of uncertainty about their predictions for the end of the week but expect it to be largely unsettled with a mix of sunshine and showers.

It comes after Storm Babet battered the North East at the back end of last week, causing damage across the region.

Weather warnings were in place for many areas with some localised flooding in places. There was also damage to buildings including an the lighthouse in South Shields losing its dome.
