A COUNCILLOR is going on the run this month.

But David Wilson, deputy mayor of Bishop Auckland, is not trying to escape from his duties as a district councillor for the Woodhouse Close area.

Instead, he will complete the 14-mile run along the coast to Almouth to raise money for the town's Butterwick Hospice Care.

Coun Wilson, 47, regularly raises money for local charities by running, and has taken part in the Great North Run for three of the past for years.

"I wanted to raise money for Butterwick Hospice because it's a great local charity," he said.

"My dad, Bob, died of cancer and I always try and support cancer charities. The hospice looks after a lot of people suffering from it and I hope to raise as much money as I can."

The run takes place on Sunday, July 20 and Coun Wilson can be sponsored by calling him on 01388-607378.
