Summer season celebrations have been in full swing across Middleton Hall Retirement Village in Middleton St George near Darlington in spite of the unseasonal weather of recent weeks.

Themed parties and a summer fun day for residents and families have been amongst the highlights for the village’s care services.

From an awe-inspiring display of majestic birds of prey to the mesmerising guitar melodies that set the perfect ambiance, the recent Middleton Hall summer fun day was an event filled with laughter and joy for residents, families and friends and the teams that work there.

The Northern Echo:

The village’s higher dependency care service, Middleton Court, was the first of the care services to host its annual summer party. With a Mad Hatter’s tea party theme, the party was enjoyed by all who attended and the event had a real sense of community.

In the village’s residential care service, Middleton Gardens, the annual summer shindig had Summer Seaside as its theme. The day was an absolute hit, with lots of smiles and laughter as everyone joined in the coastal festivities, including fish and chips, candy floss and a visit by an ice cream van.

The Northern Echo:

Supported apartment residents from Middleton Grove and their guests enjoyed a Pimm’s on arrival followed by a delicious around-the-world buffet at their summer party. Entertainment was provided by a former respite resident who returned to play the piano.

Residents living in the village’s independent retirement properties have also enjoyed a busy schedule of summer events.

Friday evening drinks and a summer barbecue held on the village’s Orangery café terrace, Hawaiian, Italian and Greek-themed dining evenings in the restaurant, live music and visiting speakers have all kept residents and families entertained.

This is in addition to regular sessions, that include bridge, pottery, table tennis, cinema nights, exercise classes and trips to local attractions, as part of a packed schedule of activities and events that keeps residents active and connected.

The Northern Echo:

In mid-August the village’s award-winning 45-acre estate opened to the public again as part of this year’s National Open Garden Scheme, when visitors enjoyed a rare opportunity to explore the extensive private grounds.

There was plenty on offer for garden-lovers to see, with the estate’s mix of traditional formal gardens combined with themed areas such as Japanese planting, a butterfly garden, a new Fernery garden and the vibrant collection of community allotments tended by village residents.

A newly opened ceramic garden was also on show. Launched in June, the garden features a display of work created by the Middleton Hall Retirement Village Ceramics group.

The Northern Echo:

After a memorable summer residents and staff at the employee owned retirement village are now turning their attentions to the autumn and winter season with an events calendar that is already looking busy!
