Middleton Hall Retirement Village’s estate really comes into its own in the summer months.
The stunning 45-acre grounds, with sweeping gardens, extensive woodland, lakeside planting and resident-tended allotments have attracted a string of awards and accolades over the years. The estate has consistently been featured amongst the prestigious Northumbria in Bloom Awards prize winners since 2011.
Behind the scenes a dedicated Estates team works all year round to help keep the estate looking at its best. The team have backgrounds and experience in landscape management, horticulture, arboriculture, garden maintenance and sustainability which equip them well to manage the large-scale estate.
A number of woodland walks have been created through the estate, with routes to suit all levels of interest and accessibility. Residents can also make use of seasonal printed guides, detailing the wide variety of plant life in the Middleton Hall grounds, which were created by a retired botanist who lives in one of the village’s independent living retirement apartments.
The picturesque location is a huge draw for people thinking of moving to live at Middleton Hall Retirement Village, which is located at Middleton St George, near Darlington. The community includes independent retirement houses and apartments, supported retirement apartments and a range of well-regarded care services.
Nestled within the grounds is a wide choice of facilities for residents to enjoy. The amenities on offer include a Health and Wellbeing Centre with a pool, gym and personal therapy services, a sports pavilion with pitch and putt, putting green and boules pitch, The Orangery café and shop, an art studio and a resident-run library.
A monthly schedule includes organised trips to local attractions and a choice of activities to join in with – from art to aqua club and bridge to beginners’ pottery classes.
For the past few years Middleton Hall Retirement Village has offered an opportunity for garden-lovers to view the grounds as part of the acclaimed National Garden Scheme and this year’s event takes place on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 11am – 4pm. This charitable initiative raises money for nursing and health charities by giving unique access to exceptional private gardens in England and Wales that, like Middleton Hall’s, are not normally open to the public.
