The rain didn’t stop Sir Rod Stewart mega fans heading to Durham Cricket Club on Friday.

The crowd went wild as Stewart took to the stage to perform his classic hits and fan favourites Da Ya Think I’m Sexy and The First Cut Is The Deepest.

Before Sir Rod took to the stage, fans were graced with a spectacular performance from Culture Club who set the tone for the evening.

Singer of Culture Club, Boy George, announced his jungle friends Jill Scott and Chris Moyles were in the crowd to support him.

Ending their set on well received ‘Karma Chameleon’, the crowd cheered with excitement as Boy George informed them Sir Rod would grace the stage in just five minutes.

Opening the show with Addicted To Love, you could feel excitement ripple through the air about what was to come.

The singer then performed You Wear It Well before making a few cheeky jokes leaving the crowd erupting in laughter.

The wet conditions clearly didn’t stop fans from having fun as they enthusiastically sang and danced throughout the evening.

As the daylight dimmed, Stewart moved on to slower songs.

Paying tribute to Christine McVie who sadly passed away last year, Stewart movingly sang I Would Rather Go Blind by Etta James as the crowd swayed and sang along.

Memorably, Stewart paid tribute to Ukraine by displaying their flag on the big screen and wearing a blue suit and yellow shirt- the flag colours, whilst dedicating his song Rhythm Of The Heart to the war-torn country.

Applause thundered throughout the cricket ground in tribute to Ukraine and you could certainly feel the love in the air.

Closing the night with Sailing, fans swayed and sang along loudly, some waving their hands and torches in the air sad the night was coming to an end.

Stewart thanked the audience one last time for coming down and sticking around for a ‘party in the rain’.

After praising his wonderful band and dancers, he made his exit.

Across the board, it’s safe to say Sir Rod made a lasting memory for the people at the show which won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

Impressively the constant rain didn’t stop fans from having the time of their lives, and the audience certainly made sure to keep a fun atmosphere.

To witness a global star, leave such a mark on the hearts of people in the North East is breathtakingly special.
