A cyclist in his 60s suffered serious injuries for which he needed hospital treatment following a crash in Whitby.

The cyclist was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital where he currently remains.

Police are trying to find the driver of the vehicle after they failed to stop.

The collision happened at around 1:30am today (Tuesday, March 28), when a cyclist was riding along Stakesby Road towards Spring Vale when he collided with a vehicle.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “At around 1.30am in the early hours of Tuesday 28 March, a pedal cyclist was riding along Stakesby Road towards Spring Vale when he was struck by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

“The 63-year-old man was left lying in the road with serious injuries. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital where he currently remains.

“The vehicle involved, believed to be a Vauxhall, suffered obvious damage, but did not stop at the scene. It is possible that the vehicle may have been abandoned after the collision.
