This week Aycliffe squash club began their annual club championship with a touch of glamour with the ladies taking centre stage. Twelve of the fourteen female members entered the first round, with 10 of the ladies posing for a photograph before battle commenced.

Just over eighteen months ago there were only a handful of lady members who struggled to put out a team in the Durham and Cleveland Squash leagues. The club decided to put on fortnightly lady only' squash training and coaching sessions to improve the numbers of ladies playing squash. The sessions were aimed at any lady that wanted to learn how to play squash, for fun, fitness or just play and meet new friends. Everyone from absolute beginners or someone that had played before and wanted to get back into playing again were all made very welcome.

The club now has fourteen lady players and the Sunday morning lady only' sessions are still running at 10.00 at the Oak Leaf Sports Complex in Newton Aycliffe. New players are still always made welcome whatever the age or standard, so why not come along to the next session with a friend for a chat or just a look around. You can watch or join in and maybe this time next year you too could be entering the club championships.
