Newly-promoted Ryton continue to battle with Swalwell, leaders of the Wellstream Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League as both won their respective games at Shotley Bridge and against Benwell and Walbottle.
Ryton scored 255 to beat the Bridge by five wickets with Anil Ridee, their Sri Lankan professional, and Keith Morris both smashing 60 and Peter Moore also joining the half century club. Shotley's new pro Nantika Ranjith, another Sri Lankan, made 84 on debut and Peter Collingwood hit an equally attractive 83 but Ryton won the day which had started with them jointly in second place.
Each of the top five batsmen scored freely for Swalwell with Stuart Pattison (68 not out) and Marcus Peart (62 not out) the most outstanding. Ian Pattison then grabbed four wickets to skittle Benwell and Walbottle for 110 and take the leaders to victory by 163 runs.
