A MAN remains in intensive care after being found with head injuries in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Detectives working on the case have not yet established whether the man was attacked or if his injuries were the result of an accident.

The male was found on the pavement at the junction of Parkside and Geneva Lane in Bank Top, Darlington at about 4.30am.

Police have identified the man, who they believe to be 22 to 23-years-old.

He remains unconscious in James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. His condition is described as stable.

Detective inspector Billy Hugill said: "We do have concerns in relation to his well-being.

"Anybody who may have seen him on or around Park Lane or Parkside from 3am to 4.30am should get in touch."

The man is described as white, 6ft tall with short brown hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.
